Phi Kappa Phi Success with iMIS Membership and Fundraising Software

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Its chapters are on more than 300 campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Each year, approximately 30,000 members are initiated.

Prior to deploying iMIS, we didn’t have a web presence, proper communication with our members or a structured fundraising program. The software has provided our organization with the core, online capabilities we required; it has helped us streamline our data management processes, better manage our relationships with our local chapters and individual members, and maximize efficiencies.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi previously maintained a cumbersome paper-based system for managing its local chapters and more than 1.5 million members. The staff was bogged down with collecting hard copies of chapters’ enrollment forms and initiation checklists, and manually entering member information into its database. Phi Kappa Phi needed an automated, web-based solution to support its day-to-day activities, better manage its data, gain operational efficiencies, and provide greater services for its chapters and members.

With iMIS, the honor society's local chapters were able to update their own information and upload necessary forms via the web. They encouraged individual members to enroll and pay their dues online -- nearly eliminating the paperwork burden -- and were able to track more detailed demographic information on those members. Using the upgradeable, single database system, the organization established a fundraising program and began accepting online donations, as well as managing its events and registrations.

Phi Kappa Phi is seeing online activity skyrocket since the implementation of iMIS. Automated, online membership renewals and resources for chapter self-service help eliminate a significant amount of manual data entry and improve employee productivity. The honor society is increasing its fundraising capabilities — iMIS is allowing it to better track donor data and engage in more frequent, targeted communications. Phi Kappa Phi has since realized a growth in online donations.
