Founded in 1876 and with approximately 75,000 members, the New York State Bar Association is the oldest and largest voluntary state bar association in the US. The organization provides information and guidance to the legal community and public regarding the effect of existing laws and pending legislation, promotes legal reform, facilitates the administration of justice, elevates legal profession standards, and upholds and defends the Constitution of the US and the State of New York. With a budget of $25 million and a staff of 121, NYSBA serves members in all 50 states and 120 countries.

When you keep your software maintenance contract up-to-date, you get every upgrade for that software without having to reinvest in the application. From a budgetary standpoint, it's wonderful because I know what it's going to cost me to maintain my iMIS and there's no hidden cost.


The organization needed an established solution with a strong pedigree in the industry -- they did not want to blaze new trails. It was important that the new association management solution was accessible to both Mac and PC users and that it was built with open-source architecture.


iMIS became a mission-critical application at NYSBA. With the integration between the iMIS system and their website, they were able to manage online event registrations, process online product orders, and allow members to update their own profiles -- at their convenience -- without staff intervention. They particularly appreciated the flexibility of the system and its open source platform that could work with other applications as necessary.


NYSBA is a long-term iMIS client and they have seen significant growth in the system and its feature set over the years. By integrating iMIS and the website, the organization’s use of the system is now at a new level. They are attaining tremendous efficiencies in their website, core applications, and even their call center that can now better respond to member requests to pay dues, order products, and register for events all at the same time.

And, they recognize the value that the Authorized iMIS Solution Providers (AiSPs) model offers -- an independent voice that provides product feature/benefit information but also takes important information on client needs back to ASI.
