Founded in 1975, the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors (BPD) is a voluntary, individual membership association representing the interests of undergraduate education and practice in social work. Nearly 800 strong, the association's membership includes BSW program directors, baccalaureate faculty, field coordinators, and well as social work educators and practitioners who have an interest in BSW education and practice.


After doing research and demos on other products, no other solution was able to give us everything we were looking for at a price point we could manage.

Challenge

BPD was using Excel to manage their membership data; spreadsheets that had been passed around among multiple volunteers were corrupted, thereby making the data unreliable and unusable. The association conducted an important social work conference each year and attendees had to be members to participate; the corrupted spreadsheets made it impossible for the organization to verify membership status prior to registration. BPD also needed to find a way to better communicate and engage with its members -- their website was static and not very user-friendly.

Solution

The association began using iMIS to manage their data on current and prospective members, streamline conference and event registration, improve member and constituent communications, and serve as a repository for minutes and historical documents. They also began managing their website through iMIS and were able to offer online dues payment and conference registration. The enhanced website capabilities facilitated dynamic content and resources, fostered greater dialog with members, and provided valuable networking opportunities.

Results

Since first implementing iMIS, BPD membership has grown by more than 30%. Members can now go online to find the information they need and connect with their colleagues. Data is managed in a centralized system and the association can easily confirm membership status for conference attendees -- so event management is now more efficient. Members, staff, and volunteers are happy with the added convenience the enhanced website and system delivers.
