Texas Medical Association Achieves Business Excellence with iMIS
Organization Demonstrates Improvement in the iMIS Value Cycle Areas of Relationship Management
and Business Intelligence
Alexandria, VA (September 27, 2010) - Advanced
Solutions International (ASI), the largest, privately-owned global
provider of software for member and donor-based non-profits, today
announced that Texas Medical Association (TMA) has earned silver status
in the iMIS Business Excellence Forum (iBEF) program. Designed to help iMIS customers maximize their software investments,
the initiative provides tools and best practices for improving overall
organizational productivity and efficiency, increasing revenue and
reducing expenses.
After completing an iBEF Roadmap planning
session in 2009, TMA worked with ASI to align its technology with its
strategic direction. The organization has since met the criteria for
excellence in two of the four areas of the iMIS Value Cycle—relationship management and
business intelligence—and become an industry leader by supporting other
state medical associations and non-profits with their uses of iMIS.
Key Facts
- TMA has distinguished itself
in the area of relationship management for several reasons. First, it
ensures that there is only one record in iMIS
for each member; the association tracks all members, staff, volunteers
and partners in a standard way. Second, the association, which offers
members-only insurance, synchronizes its data with the insurance
companies’ systems through monthly data exchanges. This helps prevent
duplicate entries and other data errors.
- In addition, TMA has excelled in the iMIS Value Cycle area of relationship management for
its collaboration with county-level societies on marketing and other
initiatives. This allows the organization to present a unified voice and
each county medical society to focus on its primary area of expertise,
while minimizing operational costs. TMA is also supporting its members
with the development of a new website that extends self-service
capabilities, and adds automation features to reduce back-office
response time and enable staff to refocus their time
elsewhere.
- In the area of business intelligence, TMA has
demonstrated excellence with its focus on measuring results. The
association’s departments drill down into the organization’s data and
document their processes. TMA ensures that there are no
cross-departmental conflicts and that all processes are kept consistent.
In addition, TMA captures daily performance snapshots and annual
metrics, and monitors the full picture of actual revenue (from iMIS), and expenses and budget (from the accounting
system). The information is pushed out through a refreshable spreadsheet
that reduces reliance on the IT staff and allows users to be
self-sufficient—and enables executives to compare the data and easily
spot and respond to changes in performance.
- Further contributing to its successful usage of
iMIS, TMA has developed an add-on application
for the software system to automate the dues payment process. The
association was able to reduce the amount of time required to complete
this work—from two days to 45 minutes. Seven other non-profits have
implemented TMA’s add-on application, and it is being considered for use
by other ASI customers as well as for inclusion in future versions of
iMIS.
Supporting Quotes
"Rarely do we encounter a non-profit that is as focused on
performance measurement, planning and continuous improvement as TMA,"
said Nathan Slovin, executive director of ASI’s iBEF program. "By maximizing its use of iMIS, the association has achieved new levels of
success. It is with great pleasure that we present TMA with a silver
certificate."
